How to detect the most common cyber scams and attacks

  • 8 tips to help you

At BESTINVER, we want to help you identify fraud or identity theft attempts by cybercriminals, who are increasingly present in our daily lives. Please keep the following in mind to detect and avoid the most common attacks and scams:

    1. Be cautious of any message, through any channel, that requests personal or confidential information. If you receive emails, SMS, phone calls or WhatsApp messages asking for personal details, do not respond or share any information. Remember, BESTINVER will never ask you for your client area password.

    2. Be wary of WhatsApp group invitations or messages from unknown senders claiming to represent an entity or offering you a benefit. Be especially suspicious of messages containing spelling mistakes or unnatural language.

    3. BESTINVER does not participate in WhatsApp groups, nor does it share information through them under any circumstances.

    4. Always check the sender and links in any communication. Before clicking on any link, carefully review the sender’s email address, the website domain, and the content of the message. Be cautious if there are spelling mistakes, an urgent tone, or shortened or suspicious links — and when in doubt, do not click.

    5. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and make sure you initiate contact with the entity through its official channels.

    6. Use strong and unique passwords: they are your first line of defense. Change them regularly, avoid reusing them on different platforms, and never share them.

    7. Keep your devices locked and secure. Make sure they are updated with the latest security patches. Use a password, fingerprint, or facial recognition, and avoid connecting to public Wi-Fi networks when accessing sensitive information.

    8. Be especially careful on social media and messaging apps like WhatsApp. Do not share personal information in comments, forums, groups, or public profiles. Always verify that you are interacting with official BESTINVER accounts.
